View My Work →Hailing from the cornfields of Tipp City, OH, Maya Vyas loves to write darkly comedic stories that center around raucous families, radical body positivity, and the rare upbringing of a third-generation Desi-American girl.
In 2021, she graduated from USC's School of Cinematic Arts with a BFA in Writing for Screen and Television. While there, she was a Jon M. Chu APAA Cinematic Arts Scholar.
After graduation, she wrote and produced episodes on The CW's WALKER, and was staffed on season one of WE WERE LIARS (2025) and season three of LEVERAGE: REDEMPTION on Amazon Prime. She has flown to set for all of the shows she's written on, producing episodes anywhere from Austin to Nova Scotia.
Her other credits include the YouTube series CARS OF THE WILD for Pixar's Cars, and her own short film, LEGALLY BROWN: THE MUSICAL THE SHORT, which received the Stage 32 Grand Prize Award at Hollyshorts Film Festival.
Maya was on the writing staff for seasons one and two of the hit Audible podcast MURDER AT THE PATEL MOTEL, which won a 2026 Ambie Award.
She is a Humanitas, Scriptapalooza, CAPE, and Disney Writing Fellowship Semifinalist. Most recently, Maya was a story editor on season two of We Were Liars, slated to be released in 2027.
"Stereotypes are my favorite things to dissect and prove and break – whether it's a brown girl who wants to be a leading lady, a short king who wants to be swept off his feet, or a group of pyramid-scheming housewives that are as vicious as any cartel."
I hope my work can bring marginalized communities closer and reshape the way we think of beauty – both inside and out.
